Why Self Love And Self Care Is Not A Luxury, It’s A Necessity!

To be honest, many of us are not really raised to value self love and self care. Loving others and taking care of others is usually valued and praised a lot more in our society and within a lot of people’s families growing up.

The “disease to please” and an overwhelming responsibility to fix and rescue people can sometimes become way out of balance if we don’t stop, slow down and pay attention to what is really going on. Especially with women and mothers. Women are naturally born nurturers and carers and genetically enhanced to nurture and care for our children and families.

We don’t want to appear lazy or feel like we are not “pulling our weight”. Over time your body, health and inner peace can start to develop signs and symptoms telling us to stop and pay attention.

This is your inner guidance system trying to get your attention and many of us are not taught or raised to stop and pay attention. Often we are raised to carry on, toughen up or pop a pill to make the issue go away, not realising how and why we need to stop and pay attention.

And if you are interested in how your body is speaking to you, check out Alison’s recent video.

The mind, body, spirit connection is working 24/7 whether we notice it or not. Your body hears and feels every thought you think every second of the day and responds in kind. Our muscles, organs, glands and energetic body can either contract and tighten, or relax and expand, according to our conscious and subconscious thoughts.

If our body only ever hears negative thoughts about ourselves, how do you think it will respond?

Those negative thoughts will cause your body to constantly contract and tighten, increasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

Some physical affects of increased stress, high cortisol levels and lack of self love on the body can be: headaches, tight sore muscles in your back, neck and shoulders, digestive issues, food intolerances, fatigue, weak immune system, irritability, moodiness, weight issues, food cravings and sleep problems.

When you understand the mind, body, spirit connection it can really empower you to take back responsibility for your own health and happiness. Your body is an amazing design, but it needs your help!

Here are 3 suggestions that may assist:
1. We all know you are good at “doing” but do you balance it with “being”? Spend more time happily “resting and digesting” and tone down your need to keep “going and doing”;
2. Practice one of my favourite affirmations: “I now cut myself some slack, send myself some love, be my own best friend just for a change and love and accept myself just the way I am”;
3. Stop trying to drive other peoples lives and get back in your own seat, in your own car, on your own lane, on your own highway. Remember trying to drive 2 cars at once causes accidents and never gives others the chance to learn how to drive on their own.
