You’ve done the manifesting, you’ve visualised it, but still it eludes you. ‘What is wrong with me’ I hear you ask? Where is my abundance?
Let’s go back a step. What exactly is abundance? What does it mean to YOU?
The Cambridge dictionary defines abundance as a situation of more than enough. But what is ‘more than enough’? Who sets this standard?
Remembering My Abundance
Last year I had my fair share of financial woes and I found myself feeling less than abundant. Later that year, I found myself at a spiritual retreat. One evening we did an outdoor meditation where we connected with all living beings on Earth and beyond. I enjoyed the meditation and found that I felt uplifted and ‘expanded’ afterwards.
I remember going back to my room, sitting on the bed, and thinking to myself ‘I feel abundant, I really do’!
I felt blessed and abundant for finding myself on retreat, in a serene environment, with like-minded people, nourishing my body, mind and spirit.
In that moment, there was nothing more that I desired. I felt that I had enough of everything that I needed, and more. I felt abundant. This was a feeling that no amount of money could buy.
Abundance On My Radar
Since that day I make a conscious decision on a daily basis to look for miracles and blessings in my life, which is how I define abundance. When you look for something, your mind becomes like a magnet or radar, constantly on the look-out.
Just as I was wondering how I would afford some pampering for myself, a colleague asks if I would be interested in being a body while she clocks up clinic hours for her Diploma of Reflexology.
When I was starting to feel guilty for not being able to send my daughter to overseas school camp, my children start to reminisce about all the great adventures they have enjoyed. I feel abundant when I go grocery shopping and see the variety of offerings available to me. I feel abundant when my chickpeas sprout, when my kombucha grows and when I look out at the stars at night.
How Much Is Enough?
How many clothes is enough? Jewellery, handbags, shoes? How many roles do I have to play? How much money do I need to earn?
When I realise that what I have is enough, I feel abundant. When I realise that what I know is enough, I feel abundant. There is nothing more I have to be or do.
I AM Enough
This is my mantra.
I still have dreams and aspirations, but the more I feel abundance in the present moment, the more abundance appears on my radar today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. It snowballs.
Where Is My Abundance?
Abundance is all around me when I am open to seeing it. Abundance is seeing my own ‘enoughness’ and the ‘enoughness’ of my life situation.
What makes you feel abundant?

When I first heard about mindfulness I felt resistant. How could I possibly be mindful with a mind full of chatter? It was so busy in my mind.
No room for quiet and certainly no capacity (so I thought) to be in the present moment. I pondered the definition as a state of being conscious or aware of something or as Brene Brown aptly describes it -“paying attention.” Something I was told often in high school (quiet giggles). It was now crystal clear why I was resistant!
At that time the word mindfulness was all that seemed to enter my circle of consciousness.
There were books being published, workshops being held, people talking about it. It was the new buzz word. As a head thinking analyst this was too far from my perceived capabilities. There was no way I could quieten my mind chatter and be in the present moment. It just wasn’t possible.
Or so I thought.
Exploring this new concept I learnt that accessing a state of mindfulness was not exclusive to sitting cross legged in complete silence on top of a mountain in Tibet.
There were so many other ways to access a mindful state, like walking and feeling each foot as it makes contact with the pavement or listening to music and focusing on the sound of a single instrument from start to finish. This was much more to my liking.
I also liked the idea of guided mindfulness meditations and began listening to them at night before going to sleep.
The benefits of mindfulness also piqued my interest. Things like improving academic performance, regulating emotions, enhancing sleep and decreasing anxiety and depression. Amazing stuff. It was then that I thought, maybe I can give this mindfulness thing a go.
And I did.
Creativity is now my main method of accessing mindfulness. The perfect combination of “doing” and “being” simultaneously. Sometimes it’s drawing, sometimes it’s painting but my favourite is colouring. I love to focus on the up and down movement of the pencil or immerse myself in the colour I am using.
Colouring allows me time out from my monkey mind with a free ticket to Zen Land.
It is this method of mindfulness that I would like to share with you. Our Gratitude Online experience this month is centred around mindful colouring!
A mindfulness mandala that comprises of four components representing the mind, heart, body and soul. Each component contributes to the making of your person as a whole.
The intention around this experience is to bring awareness to what being mindful of mind, heart, body and soul looks like for you. You will be invited to mindfully engage in the experience while focusing on a particular aspect of your being.
To join in: sign up to have your mindfulness mandala sent to you!
Once you receive your mandala, you will be asked to colour one quarter every two days that will be highlighted on the Facebook page. We will invite you to share your experience with the Gratitude Online community throughout the week on our Facebook page.
We look forward to sharing this experience with you and seeing your wonderfully inspired creations. Until then, here’s a little Eckhart Tolle style motivation:
“When your attention moves into the now, there is an alertness. It is as if you were waking up from a dream, the dream of thought, the dream of past and future. Such clarity, such simplicity. No room for problem-making. Just this moment as it is.”

So you take the dog for a walk, or the dog takes you everyday! You do exercise and power walk – fabulous…..but when was the last time you did a Soul Walk?
“Soul is fundamentally a biological concept, defined as the primary organizing, sustaining and guiding principle of a living being” words from Bill Plotkin.
A true soul walk is a spiritual quest to the lesser parts of self but in this day and age, walkabout and initiation into the mystery is not something we do everyday and is not for the faint hearted.
For the purpose of this article we are taking a more everyday approach to mindful soul walking; something we can do everyday wherever we are. This too is a very different type of walk. A mindful walk, slowing down every footstep with mindful action, allowing you to move into a state of soul love as you set the pace for your day and life.
To truly make your soul part of your daily life you need to have a way of working with your soul. You can start that relationship by taking your soul for a walk and I personally love to do that early in the morning upon waking.
I sound a note, my personal vibratory note that resonates with my soul. Everyone has one and you already know which note that is. Its the one you automatically OM to! Don’t doubt it, just sing it and call your soul to you!
Then start your walk……….your soul is always ready to go for a walk with you.
As you walk, you are creating a mindful intent. An intent to link with your soul and blend. By being mindful of your intent and breath circulating around your heart centres (crown, heart and solar plexus) you can begin to feel more present. Even just imagining what it feels like to experience soul love oftentimes can make you feel more expansive and larger than you are and can help the movement of your chakras.
You can do this at various times of the day, in fact, anytime doing anything, not just meditating.
Another way is to walk a labyrinth. A slow meditative mindful walk to relax and balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain and release all that is no longer needed for our journey. It is a way to see the metaphors of our life and reflect on those sparks of intuition and guidance that arise whilst walking. Knowing that every labyrinth walk is a way to find yourself and is unique to you.
Viewing your life from your souls perspective you can ask the question “what is my purpose today?” Maybe you want to ask “How can I serve you more today”. Then let whatever rises to the surface, or whatever you feel, to show itself. Breathe into it, be aware and let it go, but take that reflection back home with you.
Your soul only sees LOVE, your perfection and your grace.
When you walk mindfully this way often, you will begin to see your life in a new way. Mindful walking is a way that we can spiritually grow. A beginning – a way to pilgrimage to the soul.

India. If you have been there, I’ll bet there is a knowing smile on your face. If not, well, let me introduce you to a place where the word “duality” does not begin to explain what you will experience, on every dimension. Because nothing can prepare you for the incomparable enigma, the love/hate paradox that is India. And if you can roll with it, sit with what it stirs inside you, you will find a pearl that will change you forever.
Two years ago I went to the Mungar India. To get there, we caught the overnight train from Kolkata train station. People live there. People with leprosy, people with profound physical disabilities drag their bodies over the rubbish, spit, urine and faeces that cover the floor. Gratitude for my health, my family’s health and wellbeing and gratitude that it was not my karma to be born into that life. Followed by a considerable amount of guilt at the revulsion and repulsion I felt at the close proximity of these people to myself.
Feeling guilt for having so much health and wealth in my life. While I was busy indulging in guilt, the most physically deformed person I have ever seen, is roaring with laughter at some joke. Which may well have been me. The constant visual, auditory and olfactory invasion overloads, fried my brain. I was in the most profound state of culture shock, a physical reactionary shock, that I have ever experienced.
A 12 hour overnight train ride through the countryside (I will spare you the details of the toilets) and we are in Bihar, the state where Buddha attained enlightenment under the Boddhi tree. Goats, cows, dogs, donkeys and all the road apples they leave behind have replaced much of the seething Kolkata humanity. But runny nosed, skinny children scour the ever present rubbish heaps for food, tin cans or anything remotely useable or edible. The Spartan experience of living in an ashram for 3 weeks sleeping on a wooden board, sharing the omnipresent and the hygienically questionable potato sabji with hundreds of other people breaks down my protective mechanisms and I have no choice but to enter into acceptance. There is no other option (except maybe hysteria).
The shock begins to wear off and I begin to see, hear and feel the beauty and the gift.
The waning moon and stars are setting as the orange and pink sunrise begins to throw light onto the swami’s private temple, ochre buildings that we are preparing for his morning sadhana.
The Qawwali singers welcome this and every dawn with a timeless, ethereal wailing that evokes primordial memories that I didn’t even know I had. Buried for thousands of years in some unknown DNA strand. I feel overwhelmed with gratitude and wonderment at being in this ancient, exotic and authentic experience. A pearl forever in my memory. A few hours later, the daily ritual of burning (used) toilet paper, that seems to get stuck in your nose, your mouth your hair, your clothes, your psyche.
It took me two years to go back and this time was to Dharmasala in Northern India. Divine intervention blessed me with being in the presence of His Holiness the Dali Lama on my first day (seriously big shiny pearl)!
The rest of the trip rolled on as the Magical Mystery Tour. Or Mr Toads Wild Ride. Sufi dancing at midnight in the Himalayas where your body ceases to move and the mountains and stars rapidly rotate around you. Trying to pay respectful homage at a sacred Sikh shrine where the holiness for me is lost in the air smelling of burning tyres and feeling that Mother Earth is screaming for mercy.
Visiting The Golden Temple in Amritsar on Diwali Eve when three billion enlightened souls who have obtained samadi revisit the temple. Feeling the electricity, the vortex of sacred energy where every hair on your body is standing upright. Our attention was quickly drawn to the HUGE temple guards (with meter long sabers) that quickly and vehemently moved us along, as women were not allowed to put their feet in the nectar waters (except in a tiny pavilion).
The duality. The irony of such a sacred place and moment being overshadowed by the reality of systematic misogyny. Walking back to the 5 star hotel and passing starving dogs whose engorged nipples dragged the ground, their life energy drained to provide food for another litter of puppies who will most likely starve. An ancient and ageless culture, embodied and embalmed with ecstasy, enlightenment, merciless poverty, breath taking beauty and unimaginable filth.
Somehow the sheer scale of the extremity of opposites creates an oxymoron that increases my sense of gratitude, compassion, tolerance, detachment and possibly above all acceptance and patience.
Doesn’t seem to make sense, does it? Incredible India.

“Leaf Tea has taught me more than just running a business, it has helped me to become a better me, a happier me, a more beautiful me.”
What is Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a modern movement that encourages us to be here and now. It is not about the past or future.
It is not about right or wrong. It is not about need or want. It is, a pause from the crazy busyness of doing. It is an invitation to step into what it is to be YOURSELF, now and here.
Tea Mindfulness
To practise tea mindfulness, I recommend you use leaf tea, as it allows the “multi-tasker” to S.L.O.W down.
I must admit my version of mindfulness is not as slow as some others. I have come across mindfulness eating and drinking that takes very conscious presence in biting, smelling and eating every bit of the food and savouring its texture.
I am a bit impatient, so my tea mindfulness exercise is shorter, but I love it.
Because it is shorter, I slip it into my breakfast routine while getting my girls ready for school. I do it midday over lunch, and I try to do that every Monday night when I “schedule” a time to connect with my hubby.
I hope you will find it useful in this busy life too. We recommend our newly announced Gratitude Tea Blend as a great tea to enjoy this exercise.
So let’s start.
First choose a tea that tickles your heart at this moment. Open the canister, and have a smell of it. Smile.
Give yourself thanks for taking time to have a micro “me” time.
Spoon out the tea and observe it going into the teapot/tea infuser.
Boil water. When the right temperature is reached, pour water into the tea leaves.
Observe the steam for a moment.
Take a deep breath.
Envelope yourself in the aroma for a second or two. Smile.
When the tea is ready, pour it with a smile.
Tell yourself that you are ready for a nice cup of tea. When you drink it, let the tea slowly warm your throat and your chest. Take a sip and give yourself the permission to relax.
Even just for a minute.
Drink the tea without a phone, computer or anything else diverting your attention. Just let the tea monopolise you for ONE WHOLE MINUTE or until you are done drinking the tea.
No rush.
Just look out of the window. Smile.
Be in wonderment of how these little tiny leaves can give you such joy. Be grateful.

Bodies love to be felt and be acknowledged, they are talking to us constantly in one way or another: hot, cold, sore, stiff, tight, heavy or empty. Can you sit with yourself for a moment in a comfortable position and see if you can tap into the innate wisdom of your body and what it may be telling you?
Breathe and allow, feel sensations. Your body is an energy system and there is so much going on at all times. Be curious and continue to breathe. Tap into and ride the energy and see where it takes you. The body has the ability to unwind itself and create harmony, you may be surprised at how healing this can be.
If on the other hand, we keep pushing our bodies and overriding the signals it provides, the body can go into chaos and disharmony. The more disgruntled and negative our thoughts become, the harder and more strangled our body may become. You may notice this with outbursts of anger, tears, fears, fatigue, and at times our bodies totally collapse as if we have broken our backs, this may be a sign that we have gone way beyond our comfort zone, when was enough was really enough.
If we run our lives by the energy of our heads, we are likely to experience this ‘pushing energy’, ever watchful of competition and generally weighing up ourselves with others, totally disconnected from our inner selves and our heart. The heart has so much wisdom and has neurons just like the brain. To live from the heart is to love and honour ourselves and our body, mind and spirit.
Can we use our body as a tool to find our heart? Yes we can!
Here are 5 simple exercises to mindfully create a deeper connection with self and to be grounded in the body.
- Each morning start the day with 5 low and slow squats, taking your time and feeling your feet on the ground
- Find a wall and go into a seated position and hold if possible for at least 1 minute, if it is painful don’t be afraid to express yourself, e.g. this hurts, I won’t give in, OUCHHHHH!, Express yourself! Don’t hold your feelings in
- Fold yourself forward and touch the ground with your fingers, bending knees if necessary, let your neck hang loosely and breathe. This position is called the Waterfall and you are letting your head energy go to the ground, making way for the heart and deeper emotions, sometimes the lower we go the safer we are. Hold for approximately 2 minutes, then come up very slowly
- Coming back up into a slight bend backwards, your head slightly leaning back with hands supporting the lower back, knees bent slightly. Hold this position for at least a minute, breathing and allowing. It can feel slightly challenging so don’t push but enjoy opening – this position is called the Bow!
- Lastly lay on the floor with your feet touching and knees dropped out to the side, your arms in the air opened wide with palms facing each other, this is the Lotus position. After a minute, bring your hands slowly together, palms touching and then place your hands on your heart chakra in the centre of your chest and connect to your heart intelligence, take your time and ENJOY!
These are regular body psychotherapy practices, which enliven, connect and energise – it is not a passive experience. Muscles may shake or tremor but do not fear, it means you have created a streaming of your life force, the end result may create relaxation, being grounded and a deeper connection to self and others.
Mmmmmm, enjoy the moment and remember: peace comes from within!

Some of the deepest wounds I see in a person’s energy field arise from the feeling of being separate with the accompanying suffering: feeling lonely, unloved, unwanted, not belonging or simply wrong.
These hurts can result from everyday events such as the arrival of an infant brother or sister, moving to a new school, being excluded, and feeling ‘other’ because of skin colour, religion, language, accent, clothes, lack of money, being clever or not clever enough.
Whatever the reason, in consequence the person cannot be themselves. They cannot allow themselves to be the uniquely personal expression of the divine or universal consciousness of which they are a part.
Patterns in the energy field, as I see them, may show a split from a person’s innermost core as if that person has learned a way of being that enables them to survive but not to put their deeper self at risk. As a result they are constantly on high alert, fearful of being judged and typically oppressively hard on themselves.
Even with this sense of being separate and ‘other’, there are moments when we experience oneness: expanded, connected and with the inner peace that eliminates conflict with others … and ourselves. In this sublime stillness we are part of the infinite. The sense of self dissolves and in that moment, there is only now, a sense of being one with all that is and enough in our own life.
And then Kapow! Back to suffering, struggle, the lack of self acceptance, the need to become a new improved self, back to feeling disturbed by the past and worried about the future.
At first I didn’t understand the teaching to see is to be free. Then it became clear.
If in this moment I am willing to see my behaviour and who I am … simply see my need to be right, my need for significance, hating criticism, running my ‘no-one cares’ story, feeling judged or being judgmental, rebelling or withdrawing, isolating myself.
If I am willing to see these things as they are without needing to judge or justify, a strange thing happens. A calmness arises, a sense of space, an acceptance of myself just the way I am. With that, the need to blame and shame myself or another falls away, and with the compassion that arises, the experience is transformed.
The acceptance of myself opens the door to feeling part of the whole and to experience oneness.
But, as long as I judge and resist who and what I am, I suffer. As long as I blame, I am victim to what I blame. I end up feeling trapped, limited and separate.
So how can I see and be free?
“Attention,” says the Zen Master.
“There must be more,” said his pupil.
“Yes, attention, attention, attention,” replied the Master.
Simply seeing, being aware, helps me to see what is and leads to acceptance. This is to be mindful, present in the moment. To fully experience what is happening. To notice resistance or ease, anger or frustration. Mindfulness focuses the mind on what is being sensed at each moment, instead of its usual absorption with the past or future.
When I am mindful of my thoughts, I see they are repetitive and painful. When I am mindful of my bodily sensations, I notice how I become tense in anticipation of criticism or rejection. When I am mindful of my feelings, I notice that when I am angry or jealous or guilt-ridden, there is no room to consider anyone else’s feelings.
When I am mindful, I notice I have space within me to choose a different response. When I am mindful, I become aware of how what I say or do affects other people. When I am mindful, I consider the fear or hurt I may be provoking in others.
When I am mindful, I consider how I might express my feelings without unnecessarily hurting the other person. When I am mindful, I am willing and able to take responsibility for my words and actions.
When I am mindful, I see there is no separation, there is only oneness.
When the Indian sage Sri Ramana Maharshi was asked “How are we to treat others?”, he replied, “There are no others”.
There is only oneness.

A couple of years ago I read a book that completely changed my life and helped me to understand for the first time clearly, who I am and why I have always behaved the way I do.
A book by Doreen Virtue, who writes and creates many books and Oracle Cards all about Angels. The book “Assertiveness For Earth Angels” was such an “aha” moment for me and has been a huge influence in my business. It has taught me the essential things to be mindful of, being an Earth Angel.
So what is an Earth Angel?
Earth Angel is a term used to describe people who:
- Feel a deep need to help, fix and rescue people and animals here on earth.
- Are highly sensitive to people’s emotions, harsh environments, chemicals, toxins, negative people, fighting, arguing and conflict.
- Are “conflict phobic” and avoid confrontation. They are the peace keepers of the world and just want everyone to be happy.
- Are very good at sacrificing their own needs for others, struggle a lot with boundaries and saying “No” to people, without feeling guilty or selfish.
- See the best in others, their hidden potential and can be overly trusting.
- Attract a lot of friends, family and co dependent relationships. People that often struggle with depression, addictions and life.
- Are often taken advantage of by those who use their “niceness” and generosity for their own gain.
- Are very empathic and feel other people’s sadness and emotions very strongly. If anyone they love is unhappy they become upset too and feel a huge responsibility to make them happy. Their happiness depends on others being happy, which can be a hard, long road.
But Earth Angel’s biggest lessons to learn, is to value self love and self care. How to put up boundaries, without feeling selfish, stop being an enabler and be lovingly confident and assertive with their own needs and feelings.
Their desire to give, help, rescue and see others happy can get way out of balance and over time it can really drain their energy, health, happiness and abundance, leave them feeling stuck, overwhelmed, frustrated and resentful.
The top 5 things Earth Angels need to be mindful of:
- Is your “giving and receiving” in balance?
- Energy levels: Do you struggle with constant fatigue? Find it hard to slow down, relax and switch off. Often crave coffee, sugar, processed foods for a pick me up or to feel good?
- Say “Yes” when you mean yes and “No” when you mean no.
- Do you often feel underlying frustration and resentment toward people for not changing their ways or helping out more?
- Health Issues: Are you developing some serious health conditions from your energy imbalances? Issues such as adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue and burnout (from self sacrifice), weight gain (from trying to protect yourself with body fat), throat and thyroid issues (fear of speaking up), breast issues and hormone imbalances (from nursing everyone til your drained).
Being mindful of the underlying reason that drives an Earth Angel to do the things they do is a very important step. Is it out of fear or love. Are you enabling or empowering? Are you self sacrificing or valuing your own needs and making them a priority.
Awareness and knowledge is the first step to practicing mindfulness. Learning how to value slowing down, tuning into your own body and inner guidance system, be mindful of how much energy you are giving out to the world and how much you are allowing yourself to receive.
It takes daily practice and it is essential to develop a self care tool kit of things that you love to do, that makes you feel good and fills your fuel tank.
To fulfill your mission here on earth as an Earth Angel its essential that you keep your energy and happiness topped up and abundant. To break that co-dependent habit and be a role model for self love, self care and listening to your own inner guidance and messages of love and support from spirit.
Self love and self care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
Alison Filihia is a professional holistic kinesiologist, intuitive reader, spirit messenger and self proclaimed Earth Angel. Her business Let Love Bloom is located on the beautiful Central Coast, Australia. Through her own journey with chronic fatigue, self sacrifice and dealing with a loved one’s addiction problems, she learned that self love and self care was not a luxury, but a necessity.
She credits her journey back to health and wellbeing to spirit, who in her darkest days, gave her the ever loving and supportive guidance and opportunities to heal and grow. Alison now uses a range of modalities to help her clients dissolve any blocks to healing their body, mind and spirit, restore balance, self love and inner peace.
